ELLEN SANDLER
received an Emmy nomination for her work as Co-Executive Producer for
the CBS hit Everybody Loves Raymond. She has worked as a writer/producer
on more than 25 network television comedies, including ABC's long-running
series, Coach. In addition to staff work, she has created
original pilots for ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox Family Channel, Oxygen, and The Disney
Channel. She has consulted on series development internationally for The ABC, Australia; the CBC, Canada; MediaCorp, Singapore; and for producers in Dubai, Tokyo, and Germany.
Along with private coaching, Ellen teaches
workshops in television writing at The Writer's Store and for the UCLA Extension Writer's Program. In New York, she has taught Television Writing for
Playwrights at The New School, The HB Playwrights Foundation, MediaBistro, and Marymount Manhattan.
Many of Ellen's students have gone
on to success, earning positions on hit television shows including Better Off Ted, CSI: Miami,
Sex and the City, Men in Trees, Malcolm in the Middle,
Everybody Hates Chris, and The New Adventures of Old Christine.
Ellen's students have gained acceptance in the Disney Writing Fellowship
and the Cosby Writing Fellowship, and have won numerous writing competitions
including those at the Austin Film Festival and Scriptapalooza.
A member of the Dramatist Guild, Ellen
began her career in New York as a playwright and director and continues
to work in theater. Her autobiographical one act, Jewish
Roots, was produced at the Hudson Theatre in Los Angeles, and performed by Fran Drescher as a fundraiser for the WGA Strike Fund. How'd It Go?, a bill of two one-acts co-written with Carole Real, was produced at the HBO/Warner Bros. Workspace
and starred Megan Mullally. Most recently, Ellen's adaptation of Mimi Sheraton's book, The Bialy Eaters, was produced by the Jewish Women's Theatre.
Ellen is a member of the Writer's
Guild of America. Ellen holds a BS from Syracuse University
and an MFA from The American Film Institute.
